Title: Using Spider Web Discussion Methodology to Address Hot Button Topics In the IHE Classroom

Synopsis: What happens when the chaos of American and/or international society makes its way into your classroom?聽 Sometimes, we, as instructors, are prepared to address the weighty issues that often impact the attitudes of students in the classroom. Sometimes, we are not.聽 To aid faculty who face the continuous residual runoff of contentious cultural issues that find their way into the classroom,聽 this presentation will address how Spider Web discussion methodology has been, and聽 can be,聽 juxtaposed with student learning objectives to give students a structured way to engage聽 with controversial issues. The session will also share qualitative and quantitative results gathered from previous individuals who have used the methodology.
